Services
PETER WINKLER ARCHITECTS work in a diverse range of environments, including inner city, coastal and rural locations where the site and its setting require unique and innovative design solutions. The practice incorporates Ecologically Sustainable Design principles within each proposal and values energy conscious thinking, providing a comprehensive design solution.
The practice adopts premier sustainable building principles. These include at the most basic level carefully orienting each habitable space and utility zone. The provision of eaves, overhangs, louvres and sun-hoods proportionate to the height of North facing glazing allows Winter light to penetrate deep into habitable spaces, while the strong Summer sun is excluded for solar passive design.
Featured within the Surf Coast Shire's Sustainable Design Book, we were also engaged as the Head Design Consultant for the Great Ocean Road National Heritage Centre in Lorne, completed in 2014. Our project 'Moko House was published in "21st Century Houses - 150 of the world's best", with residential home the 'Court House' awarded the best use of Recycled Timber at the 2017 Australian Timber Design Awards.
Our work is borne of a design concept that is melded with the client's functional requirements, encompassing rhythm, texture, composition and counterpoint, where one element is set against another to balance the object building within the natural landscape or urban fabric. Materials and spatial arrangements bring the outdoor in and extend interior spaces, connecting and integrating the projects with their site.
