The architectural design approach is to produce buildings as 'dwellings' for clients to fully 'inhabit'. Residential dwellings in particular require a high degree of design expertise to fully realize a building as a 'dwelling' in the most comprehensive sense to enrich the owners life.
Each project undertaken by Oikos Architects is a uniquely designed solution that fulfils firstly the clients' needs and requirements and usually exceeds them, secondly, respects the surrounding urban, heritage and landscape context as well as being an appropriate solution economically for the client and ecologically sustainable to the community as a whole.
Most importantly, design solutions must also be capable of being approved by local Councils, particularly in the difficult inner city areas where adjoining neighbour amenity and Council's controls and heritage considerations are sometimes a major constraint.

Services
We do not charge you for an initial consultation to talk about a potential project as we need to meet you and you need to meet us. Once we have discussed the project we will present a fee proposal based on either a fixed fee or based on hourly rates or a combination of both depending on the project.
Good architecture does not happen by itself. It is a combination of the client's articulated needs in terms of a brief, the architect's skill in working with the brief to formulate the 'idea' of the subtle design and the builder's skilled execution of that design idea. As the client you provide the important 'seed' for the process and the architect helps grow it to a realized building.
A brief is the starting point and this may include a detailed set of requirements or it may be a vague aspiration. We work with you from this initial stage to explore and articulate what is required. The project may be working with an existing site or building or it may involve our assistance in site selection.
Most projects will have multiple possible solutions to your brief. We will present several deliberations for discussion by way of sketches that will contain different ideas and approaches. Sometimes dismissing ideas is as important as finding the right idea. We will then talk through these sketches with you to arrive at a design concept that can be developed further for the various approvals that are generally required.
