This is one of our founding projects that allowed us to develop our top hung system using sailing hardware to carry very large Australian Hardwood doors. Architecture by Stutchbury & Pape, this project won the Robin Boyd Award for residential buildings in 2003. Baker's Joinery supplied all the external and internal and much of the furniture for this amazing home.
Doors and windows were constructed using large brass angles welded together to form the outside face of the doors and windows. The glass was then placed on the inside edge of the brass angle and then held in place with our Tallowood sashes. When researching this project with Peter Stutchbury Architect and Bellevard Constructions we found it has been many decades since a brass window or door had been made.
This beautiful home featured all different types of external joinery constructed from our hand selected Australian Blackbutt from our collegue Species Australia. The first floor joinery were protected by some innovatively designed timber slatted screens. Within these screens we also had insect mesh to the inside of the sashes making ongoing maintenance a real issue with the inside face of the timber slats.
We don't often get the chance to supply our hardwood joinery to the local area but this home owner builder wanted something special to go with his incredible views and bring the outside environment right into the home.
Springwater has the largest Australian Hardwood bi-fold doors we have made to date. At 3.2m high and 1.8m wide, weighing in at 165kg per sash, once the flush bolt is released a gentle push is all that is required as the sheer weight of these sashes do the rest.
