Working out of his home office in Fairfield Heights, he designed and constructed small home additions and garages as a sole trader, assisted by his wife Daphne and a small band of tradesmen. In 1969, the growth of the business necessitated a move to commercial premises and in 1970, Wal Robbins & Company Pty. Ltd. was formed and enjoyed great success specialising in additions for a variety of clientele, including Defence Service home extensions.

From start to finish our experience was Wal Robbins was simply outstanding. There are no doubt lots of good builders in Sydney, but what sets Wal Robbins apart is their focus on the customer - their approach to not just build a house but really get to know you and your family and what your needs are. You as the customer are at the centre of everything, not the house itself. We worked with Wal Robbins as they did my parents-in-law house 20 years ago (which they still remember) and highly recommended them.

From the initial engagement with John, Wal Robbins Design Architect, we knew this was the building company we wanted to go with. We added a second storey with a bathroom, 2 x bedrooms and a lounge, and fully renovated the ground floor, with kitchen, laundry, bathrooms and extended ground level bedrooms and living areas. During this process we found Wal Robbins to be exceptionally professional. All staff and trades people were friendly, courteous and very obliging as we were living in the premises whilst renovating.
