That's our mission. It is important to know what the footings of your home are founded on. As we all know, if your foundations are sound, the rest of your life (or home) is sound as well. It takes a bit of effort and time to investigate your foundation material, but it is worth the effort, if done well.
Acid sulphate soils (ASS) are soils and sediments that contain iron sulphides, commonly pyrite. When exposed to air due to drainage or disturbance these soils produce sulphuric acid, often releasing toxic quantities of iron, aluminium and heavy metals. These chemicals can leach into waterways, kill fish, other aquatic life and vegetation, and can even damage concrete and steel pipes and structures to the point of failure.
DCP Testing provides a measure of a material's in-situ resistance to penetration. The test is performed by driving a metal cone into the ground by repeated blows, striking it with a specific weight dropped from a specific height. The penetration of the cone is measured after each blow and is recorded to provide a continuous measure of shearing resistance up to the required distance below the ground surface.
Australian Standard, AS 1726-1993 sets out, in detail, the minimum requirements for the carrying out of a geotechnical site investigation, we use this as a guide only. AS 2870-2011 Site Classification - Residential slabs and footings is the standard we take most guidance from along with requirements of our licensing with the QBCC (Queensland Building and Construction Commission).
Drilling is an important and necessary part of soil sampling in order to provide information regarding the characteristics of the sub-soil structure. This will provide the design engineer valuable foundation information in order to design the footings for a new structure. Drilling rigs come in various sizes.
