Services
Asphalt (also called "hotmix" or just "bitumen") is comprised of small stones (aggregate) mixed with liquid bitumen. It is created in a plant at high temperatures, and laid while still hot and malleable, then compacted to form a hard surface as it cools. Some asphalt companies will also lay a "brown" asphalt which is red asphalt without the oxide added.
Asphalt driveways not only improve the appearance of your home and increase the street appeal, but also add to the value of your largest investment. The crossover is the part of your driveway from the road up to your property boundary (ie they "cross over" the verge). Although the crossover is located on the verge which belongs to your local Council/Shire, it is usually up to each property owner to develop and maintain the crossover.
This advice should also be followed (to a lesser extent) during the first year it is laid, especially during it's first Summer - after which you will have a hard-wearing, durable surface. We spread yellow sand over newly laid asphalt/hotmix to help prevent scuff marks. A type of fungus referred to as "puffballs" can penetrate through asphalt/hotmix in some rare circumstances.
