These are three way valves that mix the cold and hot water from the tap to a predefined (normally 50 deg) temperature which is taken through the third outlet to the hot feed into the house. These valves are fitted with filters and can get blocked - these valves last a decent amount of time but may need to be changed through the life of a solar.
Solar Hot Water Systems, to be effective, need to be sized accordingly. Size of solar tanks and the number of collectors or tubes comes down to the daily needs of the household. As a rule of thumb Australians use an average of 50-70 litres of hot water per day, so for a normal family of 3-4 people the tank should be sized between 250 and 330 litres.
