Services
Callum Thorne learned his craft in Edinburgh at James McKenzie's Ornamental and Fibrous Plasters which has been in business for nearly fifty years. He honed his traditional, heritage, ornamental, and decorative plastering skills with companies all over Scotland and then worked for a number of years in London before heading overseas to work in Canada, USA, New Zealand and, since 2017, in Australia.
Thorne Decorative Plasterwork specialises in heritage plastering throughout Sydney and NSW. We use traditional craft methods to restore, replicate and preserve decorative plasterwork either in our workshop or out on site. Heritage plastering is plasterwork that is valued by our community and is conserved and preserved for future generations.
Thorne Decorative Plasterwork carries out surveys and consultations for heritage plaster restoration. Heritage plaster and ornamental ceilings can be a victim to several issues such as movement, water damage, insecure fixings, and rotten timber. That is why repair and restoration cannot be relied on to guesswork and thus needs a system of thorough processes to ensure that the work is done with utmost care and attention.

Had to search for a plasterer after I got screwed over by my insurance company and their builders. They said the job would take over two months and that I'd have to cut out 1.5 metres of cornice to repair the damaged section. Called Callum and he did the job within a day without cutting out a 100 year old cornice. Saved me money and even recommened a painter. Punctual, polite, efficient and would highly recommend.

Our ceiling fell in; literally! Half a dozen companies quoted to fix it and we immediately decided to go with Callum Thorne who came across as experienced, knowledgeable and trustworthy when we met him. True to form, he restored our ceiling efficiently, professionally and in record time. Our experience in dealing with Callum and his team was very friendly and flawless end-to-end. We highly recommended Thorne Decorative Plasterwork.

Callum not only did a brilliant job restoring what was left of the original cornices and installing new period cornices in my Victorian period home but also used his traditional skills to create key plaster elements in the very modern rear addition. Super talented, a great communicator, reliable, passionate about his work and just generally a pleasure to deal with. I have no hesitation in recommending Callum for both traditional and modern plasterwork.

We had a section of ceiling/cornice in our 1890 terrace start to look like it would come down (after jack hammering next door) plus we had a couple of sections of wall upstairs that had become drummy and were possibly going to detach. Plus a few other repairs to cornices we'd been putting off for years.
Callum came around and assessed it and gave us a quote for fixing with traditional lime plaster. He explained that this material would work better for an old house which is always shifting and never quite square.
We had another cheaper quote but it was based on me sending a mobile photo of the

Can not recommend Callum Highly enough. He was professional, reliable and honest about what needed to be done. His workmanship was marvellous- he repaired several severely water damaged ceilings including casting a mould of a 1930s celing frieze so well it is impossible to tell where the repair was made. I would have no hesitation in recommending Callum for any project.

The plasterwork and cornices in the Californian Bungalow we bought needed some serious attention. Some of the cornices were sagging, there were literally thousands of cracks in the plasterwork and the previous owners had obviously painted over flaking paint on the ceiling. We had wondered if we would even be able to save the ceilings in some of the rooms. Callum talked us through all of the various options and set about rectifying all of the issues. We are absolutely thrilled with the result. He is clearly a highly skilled plasterer as well as a genuine and trustworthy person and I would recommend

I have a Californian style bungalow which was in need of some restoration work. Thorne plasterwork took pieces of our original cornices down and reproduced new ones, installing them back in place. Fantastic craftsmanship, its great to see traditional trades still exist. Great job guys
