A butcher by trade, he started his career in Australia in the food industry which included a pizza shop and then pie manufacturing business. He also invented a fishing related product which he sold on the internet. Since childhood he always found joy in his creative side by making and renovating things at home.

We found Derek from Independent Cabinetmakers to be extremely professional. He built for us a new bathroom vanity and shaving cabinet/mirror. From the beginning he could see we were in a dilemma in trying to get a vanity built at short notice, and he went out of his way to accommodate us even though he had so much work on. Derek was always keeping us updated on the progress of our build and installation. He was always punctual, courteous and willing to go the extra mile for us. The workmanship and quality of his cabinetry was excellent. The end product was faultless and we would recommend Derek

Derek redesigned and rebuilt one Kitchen for me 2 years ago and did an incredible job. He has just extended and renovated another kitchen and renovated the laundry for me and I could not be happier. I would definitely recommend Derek to anyone who wanted a great job done by a professional, easy to deal with, honest and very patient tradesman.
