These doors above are on a coastal cliff and suffer the brunt of a harsh environment. The rain drives in to the gaps between the door and the frame and runs down and sits in the gap on the bottom until the weather has cleared and some sunny days have dried it all out. This takes longer than expected as the doors face south and get very little direct sun on them so they remain wet for extended periods.
First we scraped all the loose paint away, then we sealed the scraped area with a highly adhesive primer, then we filled all the scraped patches with cornice cement, sanded this and sealed it all again before applying 2 coats of best quality ceiling flat. We wrapped the rose bushes outside the farther window with brown paper for a day or two to protect them and to avoid being scratched!
