Opal Lighting was formed in 2007 by Ben Briguglio as an architectural Lighting company to continue the manufacturing works at Taren point in Sydney that has been in continual operation for over 60 years. Originally called TC Metal Works, founded by Terry and Rosalyn Griggs, the manufacturing arm of the business started operation around 1948.
The ability to produce light fittings was realised early on as the company developed from simple metal spinning and fabrication processes, towards the production of finished Lighting products. The Briguglio family purchased the Business as it was known then as Regal Lighting in 1984. The next three decades saw the proliferation of our Australian designed and manufactured lighting systems that drew on the emerging technology of the era.
We brought to market some of the original LED architectural products in 2001 and have continued to follow the unprecedented progress of LED technology over the intervening years. Our long experience of Led technology is reflected in the quality of our current range of products.

Since Opal Lighting started in 2007 we have completed a significant amount of architectural projects. We estimate that sixty per cent of our production involves a customised element to some degree.
Our process with custom manufacturing involves working firstly with a brief from a designer or client. We then proceed to work through the design details which include not only the fabrication and mechanical construction, but most importantly the lighting performance and aesthetics.

A typical case study on the scope and varying nature of what we can produce at Opal Lighting is the Four seasons Hotel in Sydney, where we worked with both the Creative Designers and Lighting Designer on three different custom made fittings. The first was a one-off inground circular feature uplight housed at the base of the butchers carving block which is one of the creative/working features of the Woods restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel.
At the heart of Opal Lighting is a traditional lighting manufacturing facility which has the in-house production capabilities to create, design and build architectural lighting luminaires from the raw materials through to finished products. Whether these products form part of our standard range or they are the creative vision of the designer we have the ability to manufacture within our Sydney based factory.
