Services
Stephen Booker Architect had been operating since 1990, commencing operations in West Gosford until 1994, when the business moved to Newcastle. Trading ceased from 1995 to 1999, with the business then focussing on ecclesiastical, educational and heritage conservation projects. Some residential work is undertaken in Heritage Conservation Areas on heritage items or old buildings which are being modified or repaired.
In this place, the building not only had to be a successful space for its purpose, but also had to be best fit into the heritage context and still be resoundingly contemporary in form. Combined with the railway gates and stencilled tracks, the locative shed and the coal truck commemorate and interpret in a strong form, the former railway and tramway presence and their importance to the growth of Wallsend.
Refurbishment and Adaptive Reuse form a cornerstone of our practice philosophy and the foundation of sustainable development. Here are some examples.
